Pentaethylene glycol di-p-toluenesulfonate is used in the preparation of calix[4]arenes, calix[5]arenes, and crown ethers. It is also used in the preparation of 3?-formylbenzo-18-crown-6 by undergoing coupling reaction with 2,3-dihydroxybenzaldehyde.

Not miscible or difficult to mix in water.

Notes
Store in cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage. It is hygroscopic in nature.
